Izaline Calister has been rewarded on November 18, 2009 with the Edison Award 2009 for the category of Jazz and World Music. The jury selected her latest CD release Speransa (hope) amongst other submitted albums, in the category of Jazz and World music. The 25th Curacao Flag Day celebrated with official ceremonies and cultural events at Plaza Brion and the north-western village of Barber.
On the Kingdom day which is a national holiday, took place at Brionplein in Otrobanda a break dance battle competition. It started with preliminary rounds. Several serious break dance battle competition are usually held on Curacao. This time the winner of this battle was Turbo from Colombia.

Catching fish for food or pleasure could be a timeless activity. On request of an American tourist, curacaopage went with the fisherman Romero Da Cosa Gomes, to make a film of the entire process when they caught a school of fish with fishing net at Jan Thiel Bay.

The carnival season closes with one last parade. Night time march with sparking lights, the King Momo is burned at midnight.
In the evening we headed out to the children carnival parade. In the festivities of the carnival in Curacao there is a special place created for the participation of the children, who have their own Queen of Carnival.
Curacao carnival is a celebration in a class of it’s own. Spectators along the streets and with an impressive series of colorful dancing groups, was dancing on the rhythm of Tumba, the official carnival music.
The months of January and February of 2009 was marked with the most popular festivals of the island.The inhabitants of Curacao invite you to participate in his biggest carnival festival for the year of 2010.
